A year has come and gone on my 180 gpd spectrapure maxi cap filter so im told I need to replace my filters.im still reading 0 tds BEFORE the ro /di portion of the filter as well as after.would there be a down side to removing my membranes and just keeping the di and silica buster? I don't see why id need the membranes if im getting 0 tds after the sediment and carbon blocks

There are other contaminats in the water that the membrane helps filter out - besides the membrane should be good for at least 2 years and the other filters you can stretch till you start seeing 3 - 5 TDS coming thru them before actually replacing them. Just be sure your TDS meter is properly calibrated.

If your getting 0 before the RO, your TDS meter isn't working. Carbon adds TDS, so, there has to be something....

I swapped the inline tds meters and still got the same read out as well as checked it with a freshly calibrated hand held meter.still got 0... water going into the filter is already low tds only around 5 generally. Guess ill keep the membranes in.wasn't sure if they pulled anything else out.

Well, if your water is that low, your membrane will last a long time.... Still sounds fishy though.. Hopefully AZ will chime in.

Well I have low tds in my area to begin with usually around 60 but my ro/di is after my house filter which brings it down considerably.I was going to still run the di after the carbon and sediment filters but ill just leave the membranes

The NY area does have low TDS but they have extremely high suspended solids or TSS so good filtration is a must.
