some things should be left in the ocean. octopus will get out of the tank, period. their diet is not one that a human can keep up with. then theres the ink, which can ruin the tank almost instantly. there have been some kept in captivity, but in a very strict and elaborated system.

yes i agree. i highly doubt i will be keeping an Octopus. just a neat idea. :)

I've got plenty of time to figure it out though. Still have to find somewhere to put it, then get it cycled and all.

I saw some of those at Dallas World Aquarium...and they dont look very cuttly(hehe sorry for the pun)

but i do kinda like the seahorse idea, i've been reading up on seahorses off and on over the past 4 months or so. seems like i read somewhere that they dont do very well in a tank that size due to feeding concentration. but maybe if i had a couple of those brine shrimp hatchery's that autofeed and then do mysis in the evenings after work it would be ok. plus i would have some plants and such in there so there would be plenty of little critters to much on once it gets established.

If the 55g is reef then I would change it over to the 125g and make the 55 a seahorse if you have a liking for them. Reef tank is always better bigger IMO.

When I had my 45g tank, I bought an octopus and had it for a couple of months. They are very smart but you could have the whole tank sealed, so to speak. The only thing I had to do was screen in the back of the canopy b/c it was opened for ventilation. I feed it 2-3 red crabs every 3rd day and he was happy. I had to get rid of him b/c he didnt leave any fish or inverts alive. Thats why I would set up a tank just for the octopus.
