I wana do GFO and carbon, but do they have to be in separate reactors this is only for a 29 gallon tank with a 10 gallon sump, or would i be just better off throwing in a filter bag and placing in the sump near the water drain?

You can combine them in one reactor. But GFO lasts longer than carbon, and you are forced to change them at the same time. Also, you cannot tumble the media at all because they are different a different hardness, (cant remember which one is harder), and it will grind up and release fine stuff into the water. So yes you can, but I wouldn't. I would go without running carbon personally.

GFO would grind down the carbon. It can be done but the post above covered it. GFO should be tumbled.

+1 and GFO is harder, the carbon will grind up and exhaust typically faster than GFO.

Can you run them together?Short answer-Sure

Is it the most effective and efficient way to run them?Short answer-No

Sure,in a high flow area, but it still won't be nearly as effective as being tumbled in a reactor.

    +1 Absolutely.

You'd do better with the GFO in the reactor and the carbon in the media bag.

GFO in the reactor, carbon in the sump. Or get another reactor for the carbon

Is it worth it to buy a reactor or is there a diy solution to it?
