I live in a condo. It's not small, but not anything massive. Just a bedroom, living and spare bedroom/office. I am thinking of getting a small dog. When I lived at home, we had a dachshund. She was a great dog. But, recently I have been looking at Jack russell's. Would a Jack be ok for a condo? Any other recomendations?

    Thanks.

Jacks are adorable, but not very good apartment dogs - unless you have an outside space where you can work him out every day. They are very active and hyper.

I'll do some thinking and get back to you with suggestions!

Hi - like everyone said Jack Russell's are very active - not a great condo dog, unless you go out a lot and exercise the dog. I have 4 dogs, of which 3 are poodles, and one is a mixed lab. In my experience I think poodles make the best inside dogs. That includes all sizes all the way up to the standards. In fact the standards are more sedate than the toys. If you work, then I recommend 2 dogs to keep each company when you are at work. If they are entertained they do less damage to your place.

Poodles are easy to house train, and very good house dogs. Good at "holding it" while your are at work. Plus they don't shed. However, they do require grooming so, do your research. Depending on the dog(s) you need to budget $100 and up per month, between good food (so your dog has let Vet visits), flea meds, toys, occasional vet bills and grooming. Also depends on if you want a lap dog, versus a more independent dog.

Please don't get a dog unless you have the time to take care of him/her. You can probably get a dog that his housebroken and trained from you local rescue. I got my poodles from non-profit poodle rescues in Florida - with a donation of $200, already house trained. Same is true for every breed in every state. Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess a jack is out and I have more to think about. I start work at eight and i'm home no later than five. I have had dogs in the past and I will take very good care of my next one.

Sounds strange but chow-chows make for good apartment pets. They are pretty much like a cat in a dog's body. They have rough and smooth coated, but my rough doesn't shed like a typical hairy dog. Hardly any hair around the house at all.

If I lived in an apartment I would get an English bulldog. Not too big, Cute, full of personality, and are low maintenance exercise wise.
