I run my water through my unit now and so it takes all the nasty chemicals out of it. RO/DI is the way to go. My phosphates were off the charts and my tank was horrible. Now we love we can't stay out of my son's room to see the rest of the family. I am almost thier on my 120 gallon and if will be coming in the house to cycle hopefully this week if I dont have to go out of town....

I used to but changed over because my reef always had algae issues and hard SPS had a difficult time in the tank.

The worst thing about tap water is that it's got 0 guarantee, and high variability. You never know whether you'll get relatively clean water, or water totally infested with chlorine, phosphates, nitrates, etc. The town can switch which water supply they're drawing from fairly easily, so it can change from a spring to a man made lake to a dam's reservoir, or any combination of the three, all within the span of hours. The invariability makes it unreliable long-term to use tap, despite possibly being ok, especially in a FOWLR setting.

We use well water here, So not per say connected to the publics tap. We really hadnt had an issue with algae or anything like that. But I cant seem to Keep SPS... so theres probably something lurking around in our water that SPS doesnt like. But Im prefectly fine Keeping Softies and LPS :).

All i plan on keeping is just soft easy stuff(zoas, gsp, anthelia, etc)So i guess thats why i'm pondering instead of buying water all the time. Also on this new nano build i'm getting ready for,i'm going to have(for the first time ever)a good skimmer.I'm also gonna use the filter compartment to run carbon, phosban, and media sponge,i have no intentions of keeping difficult corals or even one that need spot fed.

Also forgot to mention that i've never used anything but tap on all my freshwater tanks will no ill effects or bad algea, and what little algea i have had had been easily corrected, but no problems in my freshwater ever due to the water(at least that i'm aware of)and my oldest fresh tank is 7 years old.

Yes I admit it, I 2 use tap water.. I have in all four of the tanks I've had and my current one also.. It depends on city and how the water is. Everyones tap water is different.

Either something in the water causing you to think differently, or something not in your water killing the corals. ::)
