does anyone use tap water?

Well?I buy the jugged ro/di water from wal-mart,and in the past i have used tap water ran through a PUR water filter.But i'm just curious to how many of you use regular tap,and if so have you had any major issues??I know how you guys with rodi units feel on the issue,but i'm wanting some feedback from those who don't own a unit or just use plain ole tap water?

 

I think PUR is actually a mini DI unit with a prefilter....

 

the PUR filter i'm talking about is the water pitcher that u fill with water,it runs through a filter cartidge and into the bottom of the pitcher?Are we talking the same thing?

 

Eh, kinda. I was thinking the faucet mounted, 3 stage ones were DI, but after doing a bit more looking, they seem to be just a carbon filter.

That means there could still be quite a bit of nasty left in the water when it comes out of the filter.

 

I'm bad. I have used unfiltered tap for the past year. I treat it for chlorine. That's about it though. :/ This is in my FOWLR. Though I only have a few livestock.

My substrate is crushed coral & I do 20% weekly WC. I usually have around 5 ppm nitrates.

 

yea,same thing,just mines a water pitcher instead of the faucet mount,i always figured it was just dense filter media with some carbon in it.

 

Have you ever had any major issues with using it?Bad algea,etc.?

 

I was using regular tap water and it was a mess. I had Green algae everywhere. spectrapure was my savior and now my water and my tank is crystal clear. NO MORE ALGAE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can actually see the purple coraline now on my live rock.....

 

are you still using tap with spectrapure?

 

I, personally, have seen no ill-effects. Though, your water is not mine & mine is not yours. I have not tested my water. I know I should, but never have.
