Fat Tuesday isn't at all regional like the pączki... I was watching the Today Show this morning and they were showing the Fat Tuesday celebrations in New Orleans, which is today of course :) BTW I just ate another pączki for breakfast. I won't eat anymore though... that's enough diet violations!

The "real" ones they make around here in bakeries are strawberry ones that are stuffed with fresh strawberries and real whipped cream. I had one yesterday, they taste like strawberry short cake but better! Mmmmm I want more but I'm glad they're gone! They just said on the news that the average fat content is 25 grams and 825 calories!!

They aren't around all year.....just this time of year in St. Louis

But we also deep fry Twinkies around here and we're one of the few Northern States that knew what deep fried turkeys were until a couple of years ago. Ravioli.....Hmmm, well lets give it a try and into the deep fryer it goes. Macaroni and cheese.....hmmm, lets figure out how to bread balls of it and deep fry it. (To be quite honest toasted ravioli and fried macaroni and cheese are awesome).

If you're in Southern Missouri it's different. Dead possum on the side of the road.....Hmmm, well you'll never know if it tastes good deep fried until you try it. ;D
