I only buy a jug of homegrown phyto from a fellow reefer to grow my own.Use it till there's maybe a 1/2 cup left, and start my own batch.Too easy !! and just repeat with my own homegrown phyto.

Questions: Could I start my own population from an already cultured bottle by simply splitting it? Also, what do people think of using sunlight to grow instead of artificial light? We get 14 hours of light daily right now.

Also, have you seen an increase in pod population since you started dosing live photo?

Any opinions on outdoor growing? Heat would be the main concern, right?

How about your coral growth since feeding phyto?

fsukum that's what i do,just use the last 1/2 cup left in the jug that i just grew to start the next.I don't buy any algae disks just get a jug of phyto that someone grew and go from there.

I don't notice any difference in growth but i'm almost 100% acropora. They have found phyto inside of sps so they can capture it.

Don't see why you couldn't grow outside ? Just don't want it to warm as it's grown under room temperature.
