I believe live phyto is expensive, but you could grow your own.

    Answer below.
I'm not professing this way as better! You can light the fuge if you want to use algae as a nutrient export. However any area set aside with low flow and is predator free will encourage the pod population. Another way to do this without a fuge, is to pile up rubble inside the display behind the rockwork. The predators are limited to what they can hunt on the outside but those on the inside are safe. I have know some to even surround the rubble in eggcrate to ad further protection.

Many may cringe at the though of allowing an area that may be a haven for detritus but pods feed on detritus too. detritus is no buig deal. On my tank there is no place to catch detritus other than the skimmer. It has only been up running continuously for 10 years.

    Hello,

I believe anytime you feed your aquarium a live natural food it's a good thing. I strain my live food then soak in Selcon before feeding. When feeding live food(twice a week) i always allow more time before pumps come on and do this by adding air for the hour my pumps are off.

    Best of Luck!

I just found out that our LFS can get the DT's Phytoplankton. I'm wanting the phyto mainly to feed pods. Hopefully the rest of my tank will benefit.

I used to feed it, but quit after about 6 months. I saw no benefits to my corals. I did not loose any of my little clams though.... but who knows if this was the reason. I dosed daily. Just poured 2 cups of it into my 150 display. I made sure to turn off my skimmer first however and left it off for 30 minutes.

I followed the instructions below... was super easy to do.

I was going to link that if the OP was interested in growing his own. I stumbled upon that a few weeks back.

Thanks for the replies and new info guys! I'm just wanting a lil extra something to feed my pod population is all. A rubble pile sounds pretty neat :)

I feed my own home grown phyto about twice a week, the stuff they sell in the store from companies like kent marine is all dead and does nothing but make HUGE MESS of the tank

Honestly phyto is so easy to grow yourself and is MUCH MUCH more valuable nutrition wise than dead stinky bottle green water
