    I agree... really think about the time and money you are willing to invest. There are some great posts here which you should take advantage of and research. THEN make up your mind. This is NOT a cheap hobby and please be aware of it before getting into it!

    +1 peredhil, plus everyone on a fish forum loves it, and thinks other people should love it too. Ask yourself how much time and money you have to burn. Even though i love my tanks, its thousands of dollars and hours and hours a week.

    Thanks for your replies!

    I think from your opinions and others this is what I should do:

    -go freshwater
    -get a 30 to 40 galon tank
    -get a filter
    -put it close to a sink/water hose
    -put it on a sturdy table [I believe they make specialized furniture]
    -cycle
    -get fish food
    -get fish cichlids seem to be a good option

    I've heard that I would have to get chemicals, is this true? or will it depend on something like overstocking or understocking or other?

    I've visited petco and from i've seen on the web there prices are overall higher and do not have knowledgeable staff, I have not gone to a local aquarium store lately, but for what I recall unless they want to get rid of something their prices ara also higher, they do have fish though... :)

    Any recomendations on online stores? I've visited: drsfosters&smith.com, fishpetlove.com, marinedepot.com, bigalsonline.com... comparing prices of say filters (which seems to ba a must) I found that fispetlove.com has the cheapest:

    Rio Hang On Back Wet/Dry Filter [FI-TM110] - $9.99 : Aquariums and Aquarium Supplies , FishPetLove.com

    Is this a good brand? I aslo would like to buy everything from only one place.

    I would also wnat a reef for the little guys not to get bored, i know that reef aquariums are SW but is there any FW alternative?

    Thanks again!

    Update....

    From your opinions and others that this is my starting updated list:

    -go freshwater
    -get a 30 to 40 galon tank
    -get a filter [canister is best]
    -get water conditioner / primer =>suggestions
    -get an aerator =>suggestions
    -get heater =>suggestions
    -get water test kit =>suggestions
    -put it close to a sink/water hose
    -put it on a sturdy table or stand
    -cycle
    -get fish food
    -get fish: cichlids seem to be a good option [dwarfs are ok for now]

    I am inclined to buy everything new, even if it is more expensive, I'm a little affraid of getting defective equipment and becoming a unintended fish killer....

    This is how I would like my future fishtank to look like:

    Aquariums and Aquarium Supplies , FishPetLove.com ==> see the tubular tank?

    A bit fancy and probably very expensive... well I'll just have to get rid of one of my private jets... ;)

    A fish tank in a plane... now that's an idea!

    IMO those are the 4 essential items to successfully starting and maintaining a SW tank properly. If you lack any of those, I wouldn't try it, if you have all 4 you will be a reefer for life

    Anything to consider is brackish. I started out with figure 8 brackish puffers. They start in fresh water and as they grow to adult hood, they end up in full salt water. IMO it's a great learning curve and transition from fresh to salt. They look cool and are very personable as well. That way you can start off with a simple freshwater setup and then transition to saltwater after you've gotten your feet wet. Pufferchick on here has a puffer that I think is up to full sw now.

    i believe he's going FW...

    Really... any glass box will do... I've never bought a tank new and I've never cared what brand it is... also, I have never had a tank bigger than 55g - so maybe that matters...

    Wal-Mart sells a nice 55... and smaller... Skies the limit though on what you could spend...
