I have a large zoa colony that has been slowly getting smaller so I moved it to a lower position thimking too much light could be the problem. After moving it I saw what I think was a large fat chiton on the colony.I removed it and am hoping I got the culprit.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I have never heard of it.

Have you ruled out: Asternia stars, Sundial snails, Nudibranchs, Sea Spider?

If you have ruled out the usual suspects then the Chiton may be a consideration.

They are cool creatures and I would not banish one if I did not have to.

There are alot of different Chitons in the deep blue... There may be coral eating species too. But I have never had mine eat anything but algae as well.
