Diy stand (i need advice)

    You could do it that way, as long as (already stated) the trim was supported. I.E a piece of plywood shaped exaclty as your tank bottom, supported by cantilevered supports underneath. Picture a balcony on a hotel room or something. As long as you have a rigid support capable of not flexing much, you'll be OK. The other concern is balance. Doing this will move the COG forward, so it won't take much of a jostle to get the already top heavy stand to tip -this is exacerbated by the fact that the water will move too, pushing the COG even further forward. But if it is a smallish BF tank, it won't take much support underneath to accomplish this.

    i would trace the tank perimiter on a piece on 3/4 or thicker plywood using the inside of a washer as a spacer to give you an extra 1/4" around the entire outline. do that twice (one for the top and bottom, cut 2x4's to whatever length you want the stands height to be (subtracting the plywood). then from there you can make the actual cabinet any way you want ignoring the curves of the front of the tank. just make sure to brace the hell out of it and get support as close to the edges as you can.
