so im gonna DIY an overflow PVC. here's a few questions, hope you guys can help me out. first of all, beneath the 2 photos, is the air intake pipe really necessary? or can i just DIY the simpler one ( photo in 2D )? and will it really work again if the power suddenly goes off and on again? and what are the sizes you use for the overflow pvc? 1 inch?

Honestly I would drill the tank and use Durso stand pipes. Mine are extremely silent and can handle more water than I can pump. Thats just my 2 cents. And by the way....drilling a tank is super easy.

That's a good question if it would autostart.you could always drill a hole at the hight point and use a tom aquatics pump and it would auto start. I had this on my old diy pvc overflow.it worked great

Yes you need the open air pipe for a vent. It will help the drain stay silent and will keep the overflow from losing suction.

ok i've finally made the design. it looks exactly like the picture below ( taken off the internet ) but it doenst seem to be working. can anyone tell me why? i've not glued them together , just wondering if thats the problem, air going in through the loose pipes and losing pressure
