I have found it benifical to drill a hole in the 90 above your ball valve. Keep the hole back towards the start of the 90 if that makes sense. This lessens the gurgling sound. Is the noise the water flowing into your sump?

I am confused as to what sound and where you are having it now. If it is noisy inside the pipe work, you either have to have some sloppy flow, your pipe is thin walled or you are getting a splashing some where at a bend.

If it is an internal splashing sound, in the pipe work, you need to make sure you used the thicker guaged pipe to insulate that sound.

If you are getting it from a bend, you have to put your ear to it to see which bend is getting that splashing. More then likely it is the bend directly off the lip of the tank... what would you do if you heard splashing? Would you try to valve it down or baffle it toward the bottom? If you had a garden hose and had it 4 feet above your tank and it was splashing water every where what would you do? Would you funnel it down? (You need to eliminate the splash).

If it's the one coming off your tank, try a valve to give you some back pressure in order to fill that tube up with water instead of air.... eliminate the splash. Better yet picture when you suck in a silicone hose to drain your tank... do you see air in the line after you get it flowing? Does it make noise? no... you have to match the sucking with your pumping in order to not out do the other. This is why reef ready tanks are so much better because you don't have to tone down your pump unless you went rediculously big.

The only other splashing you could hear is one from the sump where it is dumping in.

And the other member was reffering to a power outtage, not right now.... You will want to put an aqualifter in it to get your prime back after it loses it in a power outage... if you dont, you will definitly find out what we are talking about. You LFS should sell a cap for 1/2 and 3/4 with a nipple on it for an air line.

    Good Luck!

and I forgot... if you are sucking below the water level to eliminate the kissing sound, you are now going to have a layer of film on top from lack of "breaking" the water surface. Your only attempt to break the surface will be to point a power head toward the surface in order to aggitate it... forgot to mention that. So there's your problem and answer for future references... lol.
