I am in the process of making a DIY denitrator using 8 3/4 mm dia pvc that is 16 inches tall. I bought 1/4" thick air line to wrap the inside of the tube with a Okinawan alternative to bioballs for the interior filter media.

problem is the F#$!@#$ airline tubing only made it's coils about 12" up the pipe, I have read that a splitter in the line is bad.

is 12" of PVC enough to have this an effective Denitrator? I put about 37 feet of air line into it so far!

is there anything wrong with adding a line connecter in and the additional tubing?

also the clear glass/acryl glue got seems to not be adhering well to the tube, as long as it holds in place till the filter media is filled in I am not worried about it. LOL

I can't see why a joiner would cause an issue, maybe particles in the water column could get stuck but that's all I can think of. I think the minimum length of hosing is around 75foot so you would need to do something. I've been looking at doing one myself and I already have some the parts. I got loads of advice from Tangster so I would suggest dropping him a pm if he doesn't add a post to your thread.

Air line tubing is not the best stuff to use mine are 16 in. tall & made from 3 inch PVCl and it coiled from top to bottom.. with 1/4 I.D polypropylene tubing. The airline coupling will cause you a problem with a stoppage that coupling has a I.D of about a 1/16 th. I'll ship you one ready to go if interested ? P/M me have one right here..

Oh why did you use this ? Quote also the clear glass/acryl glue got seems to not be adhering well to the tube, as long as it holds in place till the filter media is filled in I am not worried about it. LOL

And 37 ft is a bit iffy I never had much sucuess with less then 60 ft for a normal gravity fed drip from tank to sump 75 ft is the minimum mI use that will run away with a 300 gallon system

I was just reading about this yesterday. 37 ft is way too short. Use at least 75ft. I read that the fitting gets clogged.
