Found an awesome microscope that plugs into the computer to view a larger image. :) Unfortunately it's $1,000. haha.

I've had a professional necropsy done on about 10 of my fish. The information I was looking for was not about anatomy, but I needed cultures. This I was not able to do at home. If I really need the data, I send my fish overnight to a pathologist. If I'm just curious, I do it myself.

I've brought scrapings into the lab to look under the microscopes.... or suspicious poop.

That would work too I guess. You don't freeze them do you? That kills most of the bacteria/tissue which would show any good info on what might be the cause of death.

No, I can't freeze them. Freezing them just about ruins all the info. I have to overnight ship them. I send them airtight in a Foodsaver baggie. The first couple I had done locally, so I just walked them into the clinic.

Oh, the lab is the lab at work... that's where I've brought scraping. The local clinic was a vet clinic. The rest were shipped to a pathologist and he did awesome necropsies with pictures. I have him ready to take my blackfoot lionfish, if he dies. For some reason w'ere aren't doing very good in the hobby with the survival rates with these guys. If we can find out what they are dying of, maybe we'll have a chance at keeping them alive.
