This week I purchased a 1.5 inch long yellow watchman goby from my LFS two days ago and all he does now is perch right next to or get his fin caught in the filter. He then swims up and down the glass on the side of the tank. Only at night does he go back to his goby roots and sift the sand...:-/

Has anyone seen this before in their tanks or have any suggestions to help my goby find a nice hole to start digging?

My YWG doesn't sift sand at all. I used to have a diamond goby and he tore my tank up. Sifted the sand too well, till he decided it was time for a suicide jump in the middle of the night. Now my YWG just sit's in his little home all day long chillin...

some fish are just odd. i had a pj cardinal that never stayed still, (still doesn't actually), a seahorse that saw upside down looking for pods most of the time, but was healthy, and a cory cat (FW) that was a top swimmer unless it was eating. go figure....:)

My yellow watchman goby doesn't sift - he just guards the pistol shrimp and eats tidbits that the shrimp digs up. If he didn't have the shrimp, I think he'd just sit there on the sand and wait for food to fall in the tank. The new goby is probably just getting used to things.

+1 Your Y.W.G. is fine. I've had one in my nano for about 3 years. All he does is hang out, waiting for me to feed him.. And I'll tell you what he loves to eat!! I am really glad he does sift through the sand much, because then I would always be worried about him causing rocks to possibly fall..
