    First Question:
I have a perfecto 90 gallon w/ corner overflow. It is rated at 700 gph. I picked up a Rio 26 Hyper Flow return pump that is rated at 1590gph @ 1ft, 1140gph @ 6ft. Did i do right with the return pump i bought?

    Second question:
I know i can control the return pumps flow with ball/gate valves but does this restriction cause damage to the pump?

    Yeah

IMO yeah.... if you could lower the watts it would be better.....is it a hole in the tank? or overflow box? and i would think a 1200gph at one foot would work for you if you have 4-6 foot of piping.

that pump should be fine. if you do need to throttle it back, it wont hurt the pump a bit as long as its on the OUTLET side. the pump just thinks its more head pressure.
