I am having some diatoms growing all over my sandbed and rocks. What would be a good clean up crew for them? I was thinking of getting about 35 dwarf ceriths and about 10 large nerites. Does this sound OK for eating diatoms?

If it's just diatoms from a newly set-up tank they will die out on their own after a few days.

Well the tank isn't new I bought it from a guy online he had it running for about 3 years and I reset it up at my house. It has been setup for 2 weeks at my house now and all the fish (coral beauty, yellow tang, and purple dottyback) are doing great but the diatoms started popping up about a week ago and now they are all over the sandbed. I heard that diatoms will starve themselves out but I still want a CUC, so are 30 dwarf ceriths and 10 large nerites good to start with?

Also will keeping the tank lights off for a couple days help the diatoms go away faster?

jhawkor, um... that would be a start of a CuC for some tanks, sure... how big is your tank?

You can put all your tank specs in your sig, I know it's really appreciated around here.

Click on User CP on the menu up near the top on the left side and look for "edit signature" and enter your info there.
