I currently have 1 inch of, really super soft white sand. I am planning on putting in diamond goby. But wouldnt the diamond goby digging into the sand cause bad stuff to pop up?

Not really. What bad stuff do you mean? Now, if you had a deep sand bed (>4 inches deep), you would not want a sifting fish because it would turn up the sulfur compounds produced by the anaerobic bacteria deep in the sand. But in a 1-inch sand bed there are no real bad compounds to worry about.

Just make sure that your rocks are on the bottom glass, not on top of the sand. Or else the digging goby may de-stabilize your rocks by digging up the sand, and cause a rockslide.

That's not a lot of sand for a diamond goby. You will need to target feed them or they will starve. I had to do so with mine.

Id say 2 inches is good for a diamond goby. With only 1 inch of sand, he will quickly dig to the bottom and you will see the glass. I never had to target feed my diamond goby, he was a very active fish and came right up to the top to eat with the other fish. In fact, he came ovr the top and jumped right out of my tank. Make sure there are NO CRACKS in you hood, or he will find it. 2 diamond gobies later and I finally build a canopy.

It may cloud up at first, depending on how much crud is in it, but he will keep it stirred and clean. They're a great "working" fish IMO.

Mine rode that carpet pipeline too though ... I guess he was searching for the utimate wave.

I am using Carib-sea special reef mix live sand. I haven't had any problems with a diamond goby stirring the sand up too much. When he spits the sand out, it falls right back down to the bottom. I'm not sure If it will be a problem with super fine sand, but I never had problems. I don't think the sand would float up high enough to get sucked into the intake on a biocube.
