Picked up a diamond goby last night and man he is going to town sifting sand.

It looks like it's snowing in the tank. Every black thing I have in the tank is covered in white dust. Should I be concerned?

Yes I know I spelled goby wrong in the title. Can't figure out how to edit it...

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Sounds pretty normal to me. After a while all those very fine particles will start to filter out, but you'll still see clouds of sand occasionally, it's especially noticeable in small tanks.

no need to worry just make sure your rocks are sitting on the glass and not the sand as he may cause them to move

I figured this would be the case. It's a 110 gal tank so he has a lot of sand to turn over.

Now that I think of it, the rocks are not sitting on the bottom glass. They are sitting on the sand. I feel as if i'm going to have an issue with this.... I have about 125 lbs of reef saver rock in there. Should I move it down to the glass? That will be a tough task.

Yes, you will need to get all rocks onto the glass. You may be able to just "push" them to the glass bottom.

Well i've kinda been wanting to thin out my rock for a sleeker looking rock scape. If I can't push them down looks like it's time to start thinning out tomorrow :-/

Yep good advice regarding the rock work, i have one too and the "sand storms" are normal and of no concern.

How old is you sand bed? I ask this cus they obtain the majority of their nutritional needs from the array of little critters in you substrate, in small systems they eventually starve.

What you do want to look out for is if you have some corals on your sand bed (like acans for example) they might get buried and damaged. I lost a couple acan heads this way.

Well all my base rock has been pushed down so it's touching the bottom glass. I took out about 50-60 pounds of live rock to slim down my rock scape. It took me about 2.5 hours. I'm no good at rock work but I finally found something I liked.

All my coral is in a 10 gallon tank with a power head, heater & HOB filter. I still have my LEDs so I put one of them on the top.

Here are some before and after pictures along with the tank all my coral is in.

Should I be concerned I took so much live rock out?? I had to put about 10 gallons have new saltwater in and I still need about 10 more (what's in my 10 gallon holding tank now).
