I've been in the market for a new tank but could't see myself spending 200 on a stand when I could easily make one for 1/4 the price. Today I rolled into petssmart and saw a 56 gallon with stand on sale for 220. So here starts another build. At the moment I just placed an order from macrorocks for some baserock. I plan on having an above the tank refugium (overflows scare me) and a canister filter to catch free floating debris and for a place to keep carbon and gfos. and yes I will clean out the filter at least once a week. I also have a red sea skimmer which I'm going to use for the tank. I really want black sand can anyone talk me out of it? I heard it really captures heat.

Also the tank is not staying in that location, I'm just keeping it there until I rearrange my room.

I'm looking forward to watching the build.

With as tall as a 55 is, I doubt you would have heat issues with black sand unless you had a 400 Watt MH. If you're concerned about it, I suppose you could mix it with bag of white sand for that "salt and pepper" look.

unfortunately the old tanks are going 4phish. There not fun anymore so thats why I'm going bigger. The 24g only has p.c lighting so I'm getting rid of that and only keeping the clown and maybe the bicolor psuedo. and the 10 gallon is filled to the brim with corals, acans, zoas, ricordia, gsp, gonipora, chalice, 2 frogspawn, hammer, candy cane, and favites. So the ten gallon is going to be my new sump. With the new tank I'm starting with a 4 bulb, and then once I get all my params in check, and get an auto topoff and auto doser I'm going to add 2 more bulbs, so I can get some sps, and a bubble tip. ;) .......all I have to say is thank you Caterpillar for my awesome job and funding my hobby.

I like that your going above the tank with your fuge! When I'm able to build a ply/glass I've been planning for a year, that is how it'll be set up. Can't wait to see your build progression!

Oh incase anyone is interested the dimensions are 30 wide, 18 deep and 24 high. I never really saw a 56 before and I liked the shape.

Like the wide and deep tanks, they allow for more aquascaping options. Enjoy!!

Awesome tank! I've never seen one before. Sounds like you got it for the same reason I got my 40B. You'll love the depth when you start aquascaping.
