So I've had a maroon clown from the start of my tank and I love the little sucker, but I've been having some problems finding the right size mate for it. I was ill-advised by the LFS that getting larger one would be fine, and that certainly turned out horribly after I introduced the new larger one and it was killed by my original fish. The couple stores I know of that don't have smaller clowns and down carry them in schools, so picking and choosing one that would work for me is out of the question.

The closest fish store to me has True percs in bunches, and I've been considering giving up my Maroon and just switching over to a pair true percs. The LFS said it would take my maroon back, so flushing it is not an issue. But I'm feeling torn... :(

I'm not sure what to do

then don't do anything. seriously. leave it be.

at some point, you won't feel torn. At that point you will know what to do.

I would keep my eyes out do not rush into buying another one and another one. Try and find one that is pretty much the same size go with it. Just my frame of mind till you get the correct mate.

Eventually maroons get quite large and can be quite destructive. They will pick up baseball size rocks or corals and move them. I have a single that my wife loves but if I had my way I would get rid of it and get some percs.

Maroons are very territorial against other clowns. I thinks too late to get it a mate, but you could try removing it, rearranging the rocks and then adding them at the same time. If not, I would still keep the maroon over a pair perculas.

Funny story; I've always been into medicine, read a lot when I was a child, and on, I eventually got my EMT-B lic here in NY but I haven't gone any further offcially, one day my brother walks in and he's looking at me and cringing, he says "What's wrong with this picture?" and I take a second before it hits me. I'm sitting there watching this full on, uncensored autopsy vid, and eating a humongous ham sandwhich. LOL. Gotta love them cutting open taht sternum with bolt cutters, man!

That said, the idea of seeing a lens being peeled off an eye, makes ME cringe! lol

Oh I dont have any intention of giving up, It just seems like I wont find one out here. Reefing in NY sucks.. for yet another reason!.
