Found a decent combo deal at my lfs today.

    The deal:
    17 gallon sump
    AMS skimmer w/G500 pump
2 Hydor Koralia Evolution 600gph powerheads

    The issue:
It's a custom used sump (not my desired setup, but functional) and the skimmer is large! I wanted a sump w/ LR or a refugium, but this deal is hard to pass up. I know the point is that live rock, sand, and plants should be main biological filter. I guess my question is, will it be ok to have a sump with just a skimmer and heater since my DT will have LR and sand?.

    More Info:
Setting up a 75 soft coral tank since I'm a noob.

That will work fine. You can add a refugium later that empties into the return section of your sump.

So you would be getting a nice skimmer but a sump that is too small and two evo 600s.I would consider other options,a nice 30 gal. sump would not cost much if you can build it yourself and you might want other powerheads for a 75.

My goal was flow rate of 750-1,500 gph (10-20x the DT volume). What power heads would you recommend? I've read nothing but good reviews on the Evo series.

I've used the evo 550,750,and 1050.I wasn't very impressed with the550/600 and my tank is a foot shorter than a 75 at 36inches .I now use a jebao wp25 and it is working really well.If you would like to use koralias the evo 750s would be the smallest that would well for a 75 IMO,and that's for a softie tank, you would need more for lps or sps.
