Hi, I am thinking about getting the non sillicate playground sand from Home Depot and was wondering if anyone has used this. Also i read that if you have about 100 pounds of this and than throw 20-40 pounds of live sand on top, it will colonize the dead sand? Anyone with any ideas or experience here?

Are you absolutely certain there are no silicates int hat play sand? Have you done the vinegar test on it?

Otherwise, yes, you can seed dead sand with live sand from an existing tank.

I just did that myself last week.

Care to elaborate on the vinegar test? Or at least link to it?
