i bought i copper banded butterfly yesterday and when he was put in he was fine, happily swimming around and eating, then i got up at 4 thismorning and my anemone had crawled ontop of him and was squashing him, so i pulled the anemone off him and he took of swimming and it looked like where he was going the anemone was following him, then i went back to bed and when i woke up again and had a look i coundt find the anemone or the butterfly, so i searched and the anemone had sucked himself in this really small cave and i had to move all my liverock to find the butterfly and when i did he was near the anemone dead.
Was my anemone trying to kill him or did he die of natural causes?

There's no certain way to tell. Unless you love that anemone, I'd say get it out of there. I had one, but I think it was more of a PITA than it was worth, always moving around...
A frogspawn looks nicer and won't move on you.

Anemones don't actually chase fish or other live stock, they move in attempts to find a place of residence that suits their distinct needs in terms of water flow and lighting mainly! I would be willing to say that you Chaetodon Butterfly was sick either as a result of poor shipping and handling or acclimation techniques. Butterfly fish are timid, tempermental and not very hardy. Yes, there are some that are more hardy than others such as the Raccoon, Tear drop and Four Eye, but they tend to be specialized feeders requiring coral polyps and sponges to satisfy their nutritive requirements.

wow I've had both of my bubble tips for about 6 months (1 in each tank) and they have moved 1 time each and they have stayed put thus far. Is your lighting adequate?

Sorry for your loss, I have a LTA(9yrs old) and 2 Flower anemones(also 9 yrs old) and never had a problem with them. Once they find their "sweet spot", they tend to stay there. Luna
