so it looks like im getting mixed ideas which one is better or more useful, i am not running ozone and i do have a refractometer, so now what would you do?

J/K....it really depends on what is important to you to see and not have to test all the time.

I was really set on getting a salinity prbobe but then realized...why...I have a refractometer....it rarely changes...and if it does its by a very small margin...and I can correct/change it on the next water change.

Ph, and Temp is much more important for me to see all the time.

I love the RKL...but it has limitations that made me switch to the Apex and being able to get emails and control things via web/phone is priceless!!!

I apologize if I say something that has already been said here (I haven't read all the posts), but if you have the RKL my understanding is that SL2 will not work. The product descriptions I see all say that SL2 is only for use with the RKE, and will not work with RKL or RK2.

So, although I would personally love the SL2 (I see no use at all for an ORP probe from SL1), I can't use it with my RKL.

You are correct, the probes don't adjust anything by themselves but they send a signal to the controller and you can do something based on that information. With the pH probe I start and stop a calcium reactor based on the pH level, when it gets high the reactor starts and when it gets low it shuts off. Thats why its a controller and not a monitor. The SL-1 suits my needs perfectly.

What would you control with a salinity probe on the SL-2? Maybe a ATO filled with new saltwater? My stand is that salinity is pretty constant other than concentrating due to evaporation so why bother to monitor it continously? pH and ORP can change and you can do things about them with the controllers functionality. Salinity can be measured in a jiff with a refractometer.

When the SL-2 first came out the RKL did not have the software to use it, that was quickly remedied, same with the net module. They bote work with the RKL now.
