I'm new to the ReefKeeper stuff. But I thought the SL1 was for the pH/thermo/ORP probe and the SL2 was for the Salinity probe... I hope more chim in about this because this stuff is confusing to me...

the SL2 is more useful. SL1 has ports for PH and ORP unless your running a ozone generator you probably don't care about ORP. SL2 has PH and Salinity, even though DA has no probe for salinity currently they will eventually and that is something you do care about. One more thing to note is the PH probe socket on the SL2 is isolated which means that if you have any stray voltage in your tank it wont mess with your readings. this is not true of the SL1

DA does have a salinity probe. Several guys around here have the SL2 with conductivity probe. ORP is a good indication of water quality, as well, not just Ozone.

I don't find the salinity probe as useful as the ORP probe myself. My salinity is adjusted when I do water changes and I don't intend to have something automatically adjust it or dump salt in. On the other hand ORP can be an indicator of problems in the aquarium, possible something dead way in back where you cannot see it.

I bought the Level 3 system (now the Plus pacjage) which included the SL-1 but I doubt I will ever use the ORP function personally.

they no longer sale the probes if you don't have one yet you can't get one. they are redesigning them. I called 2 weeks ago and they don't know when they will be ready. my probe recently died and i was looking to get a new one

Go figure. That sounds exactly like something DA would respond with. It will probably be a year. I wish they would get their act together, so Neptune would have some competition.

The salinity probe Does Not adjust anything, It gives you a constant reading of your salinity just like a PH probe reads PH Or ORP they all just monitor not adjust anything.
All probes have their usefulness when used properly and can save you loads of heartache In the long run. JMO

Yeah I was going to get the level 3 package myself, but couldn't change from the SL1, so I decided to go with the lite and will pick up the SL2 and a ph and salinity probe when the salinity one is ready. Are there any other salinity probes that would work with the head units?
