Hey everyone, so as some of you may be aware I just upgraded from my 120 to a deep dimension 200 gallon Marineland tank. I am getting brown on my sand and rocks so clearly I am going through a mini cycle even though I was able to save about 100 gallons of the water from my old tank. Anyway it's been a while since I have gone through a cycle so what do you think. Brush of rocks and turn over the sand and le it run it's course?

If its a low flow area maybe get a Ph and boost the flow up for a little while till it passes and put the ph back where you had it..

    Hope this helps..

I turned my MP40s way up so flow should be ok. If I remember correctly when I set up my 120 I added a bunch of hermits and they took care of it. Just can't recall if I needed to keep lights off for a couple days etc..

I got a thick coat of those diatoms on my first cycle, after I could see the crabs weren't doing as good a job as I wanted them to, I turned down my light by 3 hours a day for 3 days. You don't want to do a complete black out just for diatoms, they provide food for small critters in the tank, but if it's just unsightly, do a "brown out" for a few days and get ahead of it a little. Good luck.

Def diatoms. I wouldn't call it a cycle, but since u upgraded. U added a lot of silicates to the water. It will go away in a few days. U could do a waterchange if u wanted

A water change won't make it worse? How much would you do 10-15%?
