i started 2 tanks with smart start by TLC ( a live bacteria) both had fish in them the next day. it truly does cycle a tank over night. i also in the beginning added their optimizer weekly , since i was adding fish. this is a live bacteria also and natural. the optimizer is good to keep on hand i always have it. its my just in case thing.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
For the sake of live stock I strongly recommend never adding any animals to a tank newly set up (especially one set up the day before), regardless of any product you add.

    Why rush it?

I am not trying to be negative, but this really frustrates me. Give the tank time to cycle. The thought of new hobbyist rushing to the LFS to stock their tanks the day after set up sends shivers down my spine. :-/

i understand your side of this BUT the stuff works or i wouldnt recommend it. i tested my tanks every other day and it works. i also dont agree with cycling with fish, and i feel its sad when people put them threw this to pull them out and take them back to the store, at least keep them! they went threw H E double L . people think fish dont feel or think. well they do.
and im not a new hobbyist. i had a saltwater reef tank years ago and just started another tank up after being without my tank for 2 years.

Say no to damsels unless you don't want to add other fish or like to watch the new fish you buy get bullied to death. They are nasty little buggers to get rid of. I'd definitely go with the shrimp for you cycle.

I know you are not a new hobbyist and I respect your opinion.

So many things go into a cycle other than bacterial, some we can test for some can not and do not test for.

The stability of the tanks chemistry with regard to parameters, and a whole host of other things is my concern.

The biological filter needs both anaerobic and aerobic bacteria. I have concerns over how successful the aerobic bacteria can be after sitting in a sealed container for any amount of time.

This is just an issue that I am passionate about and hope that as hobbyist there is a concept of being conservative about how we stock and what we stock, and when we stock.
