Believe me I don't have the $ I spent on the Deltec either :). I felt it was my best option as I'm not going to be running a sump and I'm just happy I got what I paid for with it, in terms of quality and performance. So many times you pay a lot and get something that doesn't live up to the expectations.

Best of luck with your system!

I don't run carbon. In fact, the last time I even put carbon in a media bag was about 8 months ago. Carbon helps remove the yellowness of water and impurities, but is not exactly needed. Your tank will not look clear if you have algae on the glass either.

I run a micron pad to polish the water, a cone skimmer rated for double the size of my tank, a fuge, and a UV sterilizer I needed when I ran my 29. I had a huge bacteria bloom in the 29 and never stopped using it.

The tank is crystal clear when you look from the side.
