I have no idea how this happened but the Huma Huma trigger survived. Was going to have to pull the rocks to find the bodies and there he was swimming around just fine.

In other better news, in the reef tank, the two fire shrimp have finally mated up. This will provide weekly batches of "coral food", errrr, I mean eggs.

I'm so sorry! We had a loss last night, a female clown I was rather attached to, nothing like your loss, but I feel your pain in a tiny way. ((hugs))

Mel, I am sorry to read this post and learn of your troubles. I have seen you help many people on this forum so I hope everyone will be able to help you in turn. Honestly, I have not read this thread so if you explained further I am sorry for my question – I look at my tank and can’t figure a pump being turned off for 24 hours would kill my tank, with this in mind….what happened? You said over night – not even 24 hours. If the return pump died there should be plenty of oxygen for an over night outage. I am baffled, something else must be a foot.

I hope you resolve this issue and of course install a fix – there’s never a consolation for losing a pet you have had for years, so all I can say is sorry for your loss.

It is a tall tank that was overstocked. (a 135g with 100 gallon sump was in the works). For whatever reason, the Hydor Korallia that broke the surface of the water was unplugged. I removed Goldie and I would say she weighed 7 to 8 pounds. Once the water wasn't being oxygenated via a trip to the sump, the fact that there wasn't much surface area, meant that the high bioload depleted the Oxygen. (This was a tall tank and not a long tank)

yeah, the tank was definately overstocked, however we were in the process of upgrading to a bigger/better tank for them! Again, with puffers when they die they will often times release toxins into the water. With the other pump getting unplugged the only thing running was the canister filter which wasnt moving the surface much. Unfortunatly it was a bunch of bad luck/mistakes!

On the side note, I am thinking of a name for the huma huma. We had the odonus named blue, golden puffer goldie....did not have a name for this guy. I am thinking maybe Zosime, which is Greek for survivor. He is happy as a little clam in that tank all by himself! Will be getting a little extra clams in his feeds for the next several days
