When I first got into SW I had no idea about anything to do with SW. I starting my tank with 20+ pounds of CC in the bottom of the tank then added about 40+ pounds of LS. Today at the fish store someone told me this is the worst mistake I could possibly make, Do I need to change something? :-/

IMO, CC is a place for nitrates to hide.

Should I remove it? I cannot even imagine trying to accomplish that.

They make little sifter for cat boxes and reptiles sand to remove dropping. They work great to remove the cc and the sand goes right through. Just make sure the grids are big enough for the sand.

I'm not an expert, and I don't know how your LFS works, but here you can rent individual tank space for such and such a month. Like if you're moving and you need an extra month. Maybe you could have the LFS or a friend hold your livestock. Get a couple 55G buckets and tear it all down. I'm almost sure someone will find a flaw in this but if theres a better way then lay it on me. I'm looking for a bigger tank and any advice would be handy.
