creamy ammonia test result?????

    i just tested my tank with the api marine test kit and the ammonia test went a creamy yellowish green colour and the result wasnt even on the chart???????????

    whats wrong p.s i only set my tank up yesterday

    Give your newly mixed synthetic seawater a few days to stabilize and mature then try again.

    My results are typically lighter than the 0 ppm colour on the chart. With some of the API test kits, you really have to just guess which colour is the best match. Sometimes the results look to be in between two colours on the chart.

    My ammonia result is usually lighter than the 0 ppm on the chart, but it's the closest match. The PH test kit frequently doesn't give me an exact match either... and the phosphate result can be a total guessing game because the colour in the test tube is very feint.

    So, even if the issue is with your salt solution not being properly mixed yet, reading the results never becomes and exact science.

    If you do a search, you can find the best brand of test kit for each parameter based on user's experience. When my API PH and phosphate tests run out, I'm switching brands.
