Ok, so I'm just getting started and I'm already ready to throw my skimmer off the deck and buy a new one. I have the AquaC EV-180 with a mag 9.5, and it works, sometimes. I'll get great foam all the way to the cup, and all it takes is a feeding (keeping the skimmer going and the rest of the pumps off) and the damned thing shuts down for a day! I find it hard to believe that all skimmers are this finniky. So, even though this is a fairly ner setup, I'm already looking for something that's a littel more plug and play, and a little less of a pain in the you know what. Octopus extreme series comes to mind.

I know what you mean, but I would try and get it dialed in a bit more before going out and spending hundreds more dollars. It might take a little bit of effort to understand exactly how every adjustment affects the skimmer but I think a lot of skimmers are like that. Are you seeing any increased nitrates or phosphates or any negative impacts on your livestock? If not I wouldn't worry about it personally.

All skimmers will flat line when you put food or your hands in the water. I will pick back up. You have a great skimmer there, I would just make sure your set up is correct and let it be. If the skimmer is not working all the time then your water may not have many dissolved organics in it. That is a good thing. My Bullet 3 doesn't skim all the time, and its on a 310g total system.

Thanks folks, this is really good advice. I'll give it some more time and see how it does.
