Well, I don't know how it happened, but when I opened up the Coralife Turbo Twist 3x I found my quartz sleeve with a nice little spider crack in the sleeve. It seems superficial, and somewhat water proof.

I'd like to keep my UV running while Coralife gets back to be (which takes AGES by the way), would it be okay if I just used some packaging tape to tape over the cracked portion of the quartz? It's not my intention to run it this way for an extended period of time. The quartz sleeve itself is water proof, but I wanted to add some tape over it so that the hydrostatic pressure doesn't cause the crack to expand.

Random question I know, but I figure there's SOMEONE here that has cracked their quartz sleeve.

idealing you wouldnt want to run it at all if the sleeve is cracked, but if it is still water proof as you said and all you and to do is temporarily strengthen it for securitys sake then packageing tape wouldnt be the greatest as it doesnt hold up in contact with water, what you could use is a bit of plumbers tape with some silicone

that way if it cracks further the silicone will save it from getting wet.

but get a new sleeve and while your at it get another one to have spare because i know others have had the same problem and the sleeves do crack fairly easily

Since it is glass, you can try to seal it with a thin layer of aquarium grade silicone until a replacement arrives. Be cautious though, I don't think it's worth the risk of frying the UV and possibly catching on fire.
