I am making acrylic covers for my sump openings.

I get a let of splatter and figured it would slow down the evaporation.

Is there any reason not to do this ?

    Thanks

yea depending on how much open area and agitation in your DT it could affect the gas exchange in your tank, maybe I would recommend drilling some holes so it does help with evaporation but also allows a little more gas exchange

    hope that was helpful!

Why do you get splashing? If the overflow drops into the sump why not put a short piece of tubing on it so it is below the surface?

I like my sump and display both open top for good oxygen transfer myself.

I agree with rat. If you can get rid of the splashing you don't need to worry about a cover. Is your splashing coming from your skimmer or the overflow box area? In either case lengthening the pipes to below the water levels will eliminate any splashing.
