I bought a tank that had been going for 5 years. It had a few corals in and and a couple fish all which looked very healthy.
So ive been reading a lot and pretty much everything ive read says crushed coral is bad. Well this is what i have in the tank and the prior owner said he never had a problem with it. Should i switch to sand before i get to far? Also he gave me an anemone. I have been giving it little pieces of raw shrimp which it takes. What kind is it and does it need anything else to stay healthy?
Sorry for the bad pic, all i have is my camera phone right now. It is kind of a pale neon green color.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Looks like a BTA ( Bubble Tip Anemone), requires good lighting, excellent water parameters. He looks a little bleached.

Keep feeding him once a week to every 2 weeks.

What type of lighting is he under?

I would get rid of the crushed coral quick fast and in a hurry. How big is your tank. You can scoop it out or take out the water and rock, remove the coral, restack the rock, then add the sand and replace the water. I cant tell from the photo but it looks like either a sebae or long tentacle.

I have had crushed coral in both of my tanks without any issues. The anemone looks like a bubble anemone. What can you tell us about the tank (size, lighting, filtration, water parameters)? More pictures would be great. Oh, and welcome to 3reef.

edit: My tanks have aragonite in them. Do you know what size crushed coral you have for substrate and how long it has been in the tank?
