    Hey guys,

I went to the LFS the other day to get some supplements etc for my tank saw a small probably half inch green coral goby in one the tanks looking pretty sad.

He had sunken belly and stuff so I decided I would get him anyway and try and save the fella.

After seeing him about once a day for a few days I haven't seen him or about a week and a half, so I presume he succumbed to sunken belly.

I think its really slack that LFS can stock tonnes of gobies (Like the one close to me had a tank full of gobys with sunken belly - some extremely large) in one small display tank and think that they will be healthy until someone picks them up. Its basically putting them on death row until one of them is lucky to be bought.

I think its important to let LFS's know that thats pretty unacceptable behaviour and if fish are in that type of condition that we wont be coming back to their store.

Really, if a fish needs alot more care, or a larger habitat etc, just keep them on order and order them in when someone would like them. A knowledgeable aquarist would wait for their specimen. If they are going buy the "window shopping" mantra, the fish is probably going to be worse off anyway as the aquarist probably doesn't know the needs of what they are getting.

Sorry if im just having a rant, but I think its pretty disgraceful and knowing that the coral goby I got probably perished makes it worse knowing I cant do anything to stop it, or to stop the LFS just getting more in :(. If I had enough space for all the gobys I would get them all :).

Ryan, you, me and thousands and thousands of people care, but many simply don't.

I know what you mean ryan. Unfortunately it is very similiar to the Petco situation, they are known for bad setups and displays and unhealthy specimens. But they keep doing it, they know its not in the animals best healths(they are picking the dead ones out of the tank) but yet they keep stocking. It comes down to not supporting those places. If you are unhappy with a stores policy or anything, the only thing to ever fix it is to stop giving your business. This will result in either fixing the problem to gain business again or shutting down which might be good for a lot of fish's best interests. My 2 cents.
