Living in an apartment, i am forced to make my RO/DI water in the bath tub. Now I have been making alot of water lately, and my power bill has jumped up. Now my question is: since I am running my RO unit threw the shower, could the water be going threw the water heater causing the increase in my power bill. Note, I do turn the water to cold...

    ideas??

it wouldn't go through the h2o tank if you just turn the cold on,so it would have no bearing on the powerbill.

All of your water with the exception of commodes run through the WH. But, as stated above, if you do not use the HOT side, then it should not affect it.

EDIT: You live in Cali...Power Co. do whatever they want there. That is your answer, not your RO.

Well, last bill for me (2 months at a time) went up 42% from the bill before that. My electric use only went up 22%. The difference? Electrical cost. My power company went from 14 cents per kwh to 18 cents per kwh. That may be what happened to you. Did you compare the kwh used from the new bill to the previous bill?

Not true. All of your hot water lines run through your water heater. Unless your plumbing is seriously screwed up, none of the cold water lines are routed through your water heater. I plumbed my whole house, and that's how mine is run.

It's simple...Power Companies raise the price/kWh during June, July, Aug, Sept. Gas Companies raise their prices during Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb. Very similar to how the government taxes go up during "Vacation Season" on items that are most used (Gasoline, Airfare, etc.).

Sorry if the wording is confusing. Yes, all of your HOT lines...what I meant by
"if you do not use the HOT side, then it should not affect it."
