    I was wondering if anyone could tell me (with some form of a source), what the correct thing to do with used test kit water is. I just dump mine down the sink, but the more I thought about it I wondered if there is a correct method. I searched around here & there and couldnt find anything definitive. It would seem to me that since were talking nitrates, nitrites etc that some of the chemicals here arent exactly used friendly. I can already see this running amuck with answers such as use it for mouth wash, sex lube, etc etc, but if anyone knows a correct answer please post it up.

    I dump it down the sink to wash down the used motor oil.

    Down the sink. A few ml's of test water has no impact.

    i tip mine down the sink too, i'm sure worse things go down sinks than a few mls of water tests.

    is there any harm in mixing the used test results together?
    i wanted to keep all mine in a single jar for kicks to see what colour it turned but was worried something might explode without warning as they wouldnt expect any normal person to do it lol.
    the only warning i've noticed are about corrosive substances which would be diluted by the amount of water in them so theoretically i can see there being massive issues?

    Dont get me wrong, I am far from a tree hugger. No disrespect to any tree huggers out there either. I'm sure the process to make the plastic in our pumps & powerheads did more damage than our test water. It was just one of those things that dawned on me today and I was dumping mine down the drain. I do likewise agree that I seriously doubt us reefers will be the downfall of the planet due to test kits, but never hurts to ask a question, ya know.

    you're terrible monkey :eek::p;D

    If you are on city waste - that stuff is so heavily cleaned you are fine putting it down the drain...

    We have a house under construction. We will be using aerobic septic. My first septic.

    Any ideas on if the test kits and even my old saltwater can go down that drain?

    Thinking the SW will screw up the bacteria balance but the test kits will be small enough concentrations to not matter...

    I read in a thread awhile back where AZDesertrat mentioned that used saltwater will not harm your septic or bacteria growth,as for the kit water,IDK,but i would think it would be so miniscule that it wouldn't have an effect,think of all the soaps going down your drain,bleach from laundry,hand cleaner,etc.
