all right youngsters..............isnt it all past your bedtimes huh:angry:

I had a mason jar for crayfish........we used them as bait for fishing! ::)

we had a saltwater tank when i was growing up. It was a plain 50g or something like that, with gravel, undergravel filters, and a plain ole light fixture. Loved it. However that was many, many, many years ago, before all this high tech book learning ;D

you kids have it too easy now a days!

My point is you guys take it for granted how easy it is today, it's a double edge sword as well, bells and whistle are nice but not must have, and the next new fad is right around the corner.

Just because you been doing something as long as you can remember does not mean I am old enough, to be any of your mother.

Maybe it's jsut me, but I certainly don't take things in this hobby lightly. It's great to just see how far we've advanced, in the science and also tech side of things.

Do I want an automated tank down the road? It would be awesome, yes. But right now I just have a skimmer and powerheads and do water changes/top off manually. DIY stuff whenever possible. It's simple and very easy once you know how to properly care for corals.

I always seems to have diy ideas churning in my head. These will likely become reality soon. :p

Truth be told I would love a 60 gallon cube, MP40's on both side. Hydrid MH/LED fixture, Ca reactor, big arse skimmer. Any rimless shallow tank as well.

    Oh and full on Zeovite.

And nope I would not start with frags but colonies from here on out baby!!!!

Cheryl, this is why I feel unadequate on here, for YEARS on college I ran tanks about 400G worth in 5-8 tanks, and all i used was flourescent lighting and standard aquarium gravel with no to little rock, your basic walmart tanks( although walmart wasn't around then), and used tapwater and I had somw AWESOME tanks. Granted I had ALOT more losses than I do today. Thats my dichotomy, I know it can be donewithout the bells and whistles, I did it for a decade;) I had a 150G with aquarium pebbles, a hob basic filter, lionfish, tangs, etc and it ran fine for years till the lionfish got hungry and ate the tank;)

And thats why I run my tanks today without all the fancy stuff, I like letting nature be nature;)

Ryan anyone can program a controller. Rig up the system to run automated. Use applications to track swings and parameters. It's a challenge and an aspect that some are attracted to, they like the technology.

Then there are those that love the build, ummm cough SEANO.....

Some love the fish, ummm cough Eric.....

Some the microbiology, ummm cough Trent

And then the wild combination of all Alex.

Me I just like looking at a box of water with sps in it.
