    well if you have good quality lights your frag will turn to a colony in about a year or less

    I usually buy/trade large frags form locals and members of my reef club and they grow quick under correct lighting.

    what size colonies are you getting for $60? I usually see colonies the size of my head for $49-99 depending on the species

    I have paid up to 140 for a single colony. Have seen a $400 acro colony for sale in KC.

    I will only buy a colony if it is something that I cannot find anywhere else. Has to be something that I really, really want.

    yeah ive seen colonies at around 40 - 80 so I just picked 60 as an average.
    I was just wondering if anyone actually buys those colonies. I think that my current corals love my lighting and waterquality. Everything seems to be growing quite well.....and my acro is lookin good too after a lot of moving around..and superglueing it since my inverts keep knocking it over...-.-;

    Funny you asked that. I always thought I was a loner and now I think I may be as I only buy larger colonies. I don't know, I always thought the frags look so small in a big tank and maybe I don't care about seeing the growth as much. I guess I am one of those who when I buy a colony I want that thing to stand out right away. I think also it is a matter of money for some as the larger colonies are like you said between 40 and 60 dollars. I kind of have a rule though that I won't spend more than $60 and most times keep searching (I have access to 4 good LFS) for the $40-50 range.

    Have you seen that many large colonies in the Toronto area? I hadn't seen anything too large until I went to North American Fish breeders. There are still a few LFS that I haven't made it to though.

    Yes.
    I've seen colonies for $500 in the store.
    Depends on what you're talking about but I've seen mini colonies for high end SPS for hundreds from other reefers.
    Unless you really have so cash to throw at the hobby most buy small frags.
    I've bought acan colonies.
