    Hi 3reef,
I am really new in aquarium and have a 120 gals since 8 months but cannot managed to have my coral lasting more than a couple of months.
I think the temperature has something to do because where I leave it never goes down below 26C at night and always over 30C during the day and I do not have a cooler. I tried to ajust the lighting but since the corals need it I did nopt reduice much my timer.
I have started to had some calcium, strontium and other elements and also maintains carbonate hardness with "reef buffer"
I also started to feed them twice a week with plankton.
    any advise would be appriciated.
    Thanks
    here attached few pictures

i had your same issue when i first started out, found out that my salt had none of the required minerals to sustain coral life so i started over with salt <red sea coral pro> now my corals are alot better off i just do a 10 pct water change once a month and all is well.

my temperature fluctuates a little bit but has never been that much of an issue.

u really need to get some test kids for your calcium, magnesium etc or you will never really know where you stand with the goings on in yer tank

The temperature is way too hot and borderline crashing. You need to really get that down to no more than 83. 84-85 is too hot and you're over 86 F every day. That's deadly to some fish. Try some fans if you don't have them already. Try looking into anything that ads heat.. powerheads, pump, lights. I would consider that temp an emergency and not turn lights on at all. 26C is cool enough and you may have to turn lights on at night. Lower the room temp if you can or get a chiller fast. If I got in a real bind like that lights go off and my main pump ads 2-3 degrees Fahrenheit so it could go off for a little while if really in a bind.

Also how many thermometers do you have? My tank crashed due to high temps.

    30 = 86 F. 26 = 79 F for those who arent sure the metric conversion

I'm thinking that 7 degree temp swing could play a role in the issues. That's just me tho

could be quite a few issues factoring into this. temp for sure but params and testing could be part of it. where are you beau in geographical terms?

I can only contribute some personal experiences that I reacted to that if I had not done so would have cost me some corals - IMHO

temp- when I had the FOWLR for 18 months my tank got to 30 some days mid summer in Guangdong , Chinese family, dont waste money running AC on the house when we are out (good financial sence)

    the fish where fine IME

I moved over to corals Feb this year, Temp of tank was still being controlled by heater, so no issues

I had a few easy beginners corals in - Shroom, Zoanthids, GSP, Softies by June
temp got up again - water reached 30, a lot of these easy corals stopped opening properly ( all my other parameters seemed in order)

one of my shroom colonies started to break up, move off the rock (I interpretted that as a sign of discontent)

I got the chiller - tank bought down to 26
everything picked up and has been good as gold ever since

I felt 30 was a problem - I may be wrong, but the chiller does seem to have verified my "feelings"

Params, I'm not quite sure since I never found a test kit here. So i go as per intructions on the bottles when it come to add calcium strontium and others.

I do a 10% water change every two weeks.

    - Would these corals illustrated in my pictures suffer or lower lights exposure? right now my lights (2 X 40 watts fluorescent lights) are on 10 hours a day.
    - What is the best food supplies for these kind of corals?

    Thanks.

Well, I would have to add that the temperature swing is the culprit.

but, after looking at your pics, you have a taste for sensitive hard to keep corals..

Your corals would need a lot more than 80w of Flour. lighting on your size aquarium.

Also, without testing, we cannot assess what problems your system might have chemically.

But there are the definite problems everyone has already pointed out.

    recommendations:

    Chiller
Find test kits to test your levels
    Install better lights.
