Lower kelvin temperatures(6700K - 1000K) are better for a higher growth rate in coral, while a higher Kelvin temperature will result in better coloration. I've heard of people with frag/grow-out tank using lower kelvin bulbs for better growth, then put them in their DT to color up. What would be a good temperature to do this(grow-out tank)? Would say, 7000-8000 be too low?

OK cool. I will be doing the same but with LEDs. I'll probably go with some PAR bulbs from Lowes.

Is that a problem? They have a few PAR38s that are the right color temperature.

OK. That's what I was thinking. The only difference should be the color temperature...maybe the wattage depending on the chip used for the LEDs. Shouldn't be a problem though.

    This would be for a 20g L.

I found this one. It is a 6500K PAR38bulb with 38* optics. That's kind of narrow, but is is 65w, so having the bulb higher above the water shouldn't be a problem.

Two or three should be good over a 20 L.

    $40 each isn't bad either.

HMMmm, caught my eye there kiddo. How would you design a fixture with those bulbs for a 60g Frag? (36 X 24" footprint)
