coral and green algae

ok so i have a coral life light on my 55 gallon tall tank. we have just a single double bulb in it with the regular night and the like black light or blue bulb and we bought coral so we changed the like time to help the coral but when we did that the green algae increased tremendously and now the tank is filthy in no time any advice on raising healthy coral while also cutting down on the amount of algae i am getting in my tank??!?

Make sure the bulbs are new...no older than 12 months old.
How long are you keeping the lights on for?

Hello 3reef,

I've increased my lighting times to keep my corals healthy and happy however the tank is suffering quite the side effect. Due to the increased lighting times I've developed a rather bad case of algae bloom.

Does anyone here have advise on how to keep my lighting schedule optimal for coral growth without an increase in algae growth?
