I dropped my cooling fan in my tank and it stopped working... i took it apart too the water off and sprayed the fans and wires with WD-40... i was wondering if i can use this fan to blow in my tank still... will the WD-40 kill my tank? the WD-40 is pretty much gone since i blew it out with my compessors air gun... and ive had it running all day to let the wd-40 evaporate...

give it a good rinse with some RO/DI water. WD-40 is toxic to the tank. Remember that moecules will still be on the plastic, even though we can't see it. Give it a good rinse, you should be ok. Just don't let it fall into the tank again. ;)

Are you running a grounding probe ;)

    WD-40 = Water Displacement 40th attempt.

So if you put it in your tank, all the tank water will get displaced to out of the tank, that's right! you water will leap from the tank in displacement chaos!!!!!

Joking. Your water will stay put. But it is a nasty chemical that you don't want getting into your water. Just rinse it really really well. When you think you have it rinsed enough, rinse it one more time.

Might want to consider a redundant way of keeping the fan out of the water? Just a thought.

WD-40 big no no... I would just buy a new one. Not worth the hassle, aggravation, and risk. Over a $6.00 muffin fan???

Also, how long was the fan in the tank??? I'd be a little more concerned over the copper winding in the fan that may affect your inverts..
