I want to get a controller soon but I am so confused on how they work/setup. Im thinking on going with the reefkeeper lite for $100 or a reefkeep 2 for around $220. Now if I got the lite do I have to hook it up to a computer? also what are bus cables, ive watch a video on the lite and I do know what they are.
    thanks, Jake

It's hooks to the computer to get updates. Not necessary to keep it hooked to a computer at all times unless you want to use the ability to monitor the tank when away from home over the internet. The bus cables allow the head unit to communicate with the different modules. For instance, the head unit tells the outlet modules when to turn on and turn off the things you have plugged in.

I had the RKL and now have the Apex controller. I love them both, they are both amazing with all that they can do.

The RKL is easier I think escpecially for beginners. The Apex is great because it gives you web access to all your stats and you can change outlet settings from anywhere, even your phone. There are blackberry, and android apps for the Apex that are great.

Hope that helped you a little and didnt confuse you any more.

Basically you cant go wrong with either one you choose, its just a matter of what you want to control and how much control you want over it all.
