I am considering building a tank out of plexi. I have worked with plexi before. I've made my fuge, HOB overflow, tank lid, a wet dry, a couple of fuge's / filters for other people, etc. I am thinking about something in the 120 gallon neighborhood as a summer project. I however have never built anything of that size.

Anyone done something like this before? Any tips or considerations?

    Thanks

    Do you mean acrylic?

Plexi is not the best material to use for making a non glass tank. Acrylic is more $$ though.

if you're using acrylic rock it out. (i realize that plexi is acrylic based, but when i think of acrylic for a tank i think of LEXAN) its more expensive like horkn said, but its worth it for so many reasons.

melev's reef might have information on building acrylic tanks... Melevsreef.com | Tools I Use

So you would do Lexan over just regular plexi? Strength issue? Scratch resistance?

I would imagine that if I used Lexan I could probably use 3/8 material vs plexi I would have to be 1/2 due to strength. I suppose thinking about it that way price may be close to equal.
