So, I have plenty of experience with freshwater tanks, and I am now interested in starting a nano reef tank. I have been doing research on water quality, testing, live rock, reef safe fish and such, but the one question I need some help with is this, is the Oceanic BioCube any good? I wanna here some pros and cons of this particular setup and if it is not a good, please send me in the right direction of a good setup :)

The stock pump is a little weak IMO. You'll probably want to upgrade it (or buy a Hydor Korallia Nano pump). However, you'll probably want to do this regardless of which brand you settle on.

There are also non-removable plastic grates in the sump area which are a pain because you can't siphon detritus out from under them. (They might have changed the design since then though).

Do you know of any other companies that make better nano tanks?

JBJ, Current USA, Red Sea Max, CAD, plus many more. All models have their quirks but you won't be sad with any of them. Red Sea Max nanos are the best built but they are substantially more expensive than the other brands.

I'm not too familiar with many of those kits. What turned me off from one of them was that they severely limit the customization of the tank. The built in skimmer isn't too great and the lighting on most isn't all that much either. Flow tends to be a problem too. You may want to think of that and perhaps look at setting up your customized tank to get exactly what you want.

Also, as a new salt water hobbyist, be aware that small tanks are much harder to maintain then larger ones. Temperatures fluctuate more, parameters vary more and you really need to watch what livestock you want to add. It's definitely doable, just be aware of this limitations. Good luck.

The RSM comes with a skimmer. No AIO tank includes a UV sterilizer; they're somewhat of a niche product to begin with.

I love the Biocube 29 I have. It has been a great setup amd very successful to date. If you have not purchased yet I would recommend going with:

Oceanic 29 Gallon Biocube HQI Aquarium

This system comes pretty much complete, allowing you to have a refuge, lighting that should suffice for most corals and has a nice design. The only thing you would need to upgrade is the return pump (not necessary right away). I am not sure how the HQI impact heat in this biocube but I ended up adding a 1/10 chiller on the standard just to maintain a consistent temp (depends largely on where tank is placed and your local climate, mine gets friggin hot :) ). You can purchase a UV light for the biocube for about $50.00. You will also want to purchase a circultation pump such as a Koralia Nano.

    Good luck!

The oceanic biocube is great! I've been in this hobby and my 14 gallon cube is still running like new, with the exception of a new ballast. i have a brand new 14 gallon biocube without the ballast, swapped it over to my current one, if you would like it; shoot me a reply and ill hook you up with some other stuff i got around here to help you out. haha.
